The Fisher F5

Before I start talking about features and performance of the new Fisher F5 I have to say that the F5 is the best looking detector design in years. So whoever at Fisher did the design should get an extra paycheck for the great work.

Well...just looks alone doesn't find metal, but it gets better, read on......

Let me list the features and give you some information what I think about them.

1. Target Id Numbers from 0 to 99

Very large easy to read numbers. The F5 does not have a backlight but if you can't see these numbers anymore it is to dark to metal detect anyway.

2. Gain and Threshold

Gain can be compared to sensitivity on other detectors and in Disc Mode the threshold works like a turbo on deep or/and small targets.

3. Discrimination and Notch

Disc works from the Iron to Zinc range. Notch is evenbetter because you can notch out the 50+ range too.

Notch is extrem easy to use....just press Notch until the bar is under the categorie you want to notch out or in and wait about 5 seconds. Thats it...couldn't be easier !

4. Tone ID

Just press the tone touchpad to scroll through the 4 tone ID choices in Disc mode. In All Metal Mode the same button controls the pitch of the single tone.

5. Pinpoint

6. Motion All Metal and Disc Modes

Target ID number even in the very deep All Metal Mode....cool !

7. Phase Lock ground balance

If you didn't buy a detector because you couldn't do ground balance right, here is good news. Just press Phase Lock, pump the coil over the ground and wait for the left and right number on the display to match.(Works in Disc and All Metal)

For those who want to do GB the old way or overwrite the automatic GB ....yes you still have a manual GB control.

8. Phase number on the display

Did you ever wonder about the ground changes after you ground balance the detector ?

The real ground phase number always on the right hand side on the display. If the left GB number of the detector does not match with the right Phase number just re-ground balance for perfect in ground depth.

9. FREQ

Choice of 3 frequencies for competition hunts or if your buddy has the same detector.

10. Confidence

This bar shows how sure the F5 is about it's target ID number.

11. Fe3O4 Meter

Shows the strength of the iron content in the ground.

The F5 is deep is the Disc Mode but very deep in the All Metal mode. Keep in mind that you still have a target ID number in All Metal ! All the ground balance information alway on the display is important information to keep the in ground performance as high as possible. I wish the Fisher F75 would have that too. It seems that Fisher now puts new ideas even in the middle priced detectors. What I really like about the F5 is that now even a beginner can handle a very powerful detector and all the features. Power in perfect control of the user and always all the information on the display.
